Dear Families,
For our classroom Christmas gift exchange I am asking each student to bring a Christmas stocking to class. I am hoping that everyone can bring a small gift to put into each stocking. The small gifts can be anything from a fun eraser to small toy to piece of candy to a pencil, to a handmade treasure...anything that can fit into a stocking. Please send the small gifts individually wrapped. The fun is in the opening of each stocking gift! Your student can bring their stocking anytime during the next couple of weeks. I will hang them around the room, which is always fun! Their stocking stuffers can be brought whenever they'd like. I will keep them in my office until the day of the party. They will be distributing them, then. If this is difficult for your family, please let me know as I can help. We will be having our Christmas party at on Friday, December 15, 2017. Merry, Merry Christmas! Michelle Good Morning Families,
The desert sunrise was so beautiful this morning. It's very easy to feel God's love and to feel such gratitude when looking at His wonders! These next few weeks will be hectic and full. As we approach Christmas Vacation in 3 weeks it is important that we help the students focus on their school responsibilities. However, flu season is roaring - please keep your student home if he/she is sick. Their health, and the health of others, ranks higher than school work. I will work with them to catch up any missed lessons. Looking forward to reuniting with my class tomorrow! Best, Michelle Dear Families,
As we enter the Sabbath hours I want to reach out and let you know that my eye surgery went well! I have some healing yet to do but my vision is clear and expected to get even clearer. I have another post-op after school on Monday. Thank you so much for your emails, support, and prayers! ~ This next week, Nov 6-10, is Week of Prayer. Each day we will be heading into the auditorium to learn more about His love and desires for our lives. ~ This week, Tuesday - Thursday, is also P/T Conferences. Each day is a minimum day with dismissal at noon. I have arranged appointments with all of you and expect it to be a good time of sharing. I will have report cards for you at that time. ~ Thanksgiving Break will be November 20 - 24. I pray that each of you enjoy a blessed time with your families. ~ As I return to class on Monday I ask that you keep us in your prayers! We've been apart for a week and that can throw off the students a bit. ~ Special thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Sanchez for covering for me this week. I am eager to hear how everything went! Enjoy a wonderful weekend together, Michelle Dear Families,
As I am sure you are aware, our sister school in Santa Rosa, CA - Redwood Adventist Academy - burned to the ground many days ago. The news is devastating for so many reasons. Some of our own faculty attended RAA. Donations are being sent (monetary and specific educational items) from this school and others across the state. RAA teachers and staff have created a Wish List on Amazon. I am posting the link in the event you'd like to contribute. If not, that's just fine. Please continue to pray for RAA! https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/ref=cm_wl_search_24?ie=UTF8&cid=A3RDRE3CE4L2FT Blessings, Michelle Good Evening Families!
I hope this finds you all doing well and enjoying the cooler weather. I have a few bullet items for you: ~ Next Monday, October 16, is an In-service Day. This is a No-School day. ~ Next Wednesday, October 18, is Chapter 2 Math Test. We will be reviewing this Friday and on Tuesday. ~ As the flu season approaches we are having more and more coughing, sneezing, sore throats, and low energy. Please keep your student home for a day or so if they are not well. This will help them to get the rest they need to get well and also help prevent spreading to other students (and me!). Also, please remember that it is school policy that a child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. ~ Riley's Farm Field Trip approaches! Notes have been sent home. Please be sure to get your student's note back to school by Friday of this week if you are planning on driving or ordering caramel apples. ~ It is LLA policy that no child will be released to anyone after school (parent included) without the name placard that is from the Elementary office. Sadly, we have had some drivers display unfortunate attitudes regarding this rule. This is for the safety of every child. Not all of the staff knows every parent, grandparent, uncle, or aunt of every student. Therefore, the rule is a blanket rule- ALL those picking up children must have a placard. Even if the student sees their parent or relative and acknowledges them, we cannot release the student without the placard. We do have some situations that have orders not to release to certain people. We need proof of permission. That proof is the placard (and it isn't 100% foolproof). If you do not have one or need more, you will need to contact the office. Please, display the kind of respect for the policy and for the staff/faculty that must enforce the policy that you would want your child to display. Safety first! Thank you for the blessing of your children. We are still working on Self-Control, Respect, and Focused Choices. I appreciate your help in reminding your child of the importance of these! Blessings, Michelle Happy Sunday Families! It's hard to believe that we are just over half way through the first quarter of this year! Please take note of the following bulletin items: * Monday, October 16, is a Teacher In-service day. There will be no school. * First quarter ends Friday, October 27. * STAR tests will be given on October 26 in Computer class. The results will determine what AR color each student will be on for 2nd quarter. In the event that a student tests in a lower level than they are currently in, they will stay in the same color. No student will be put back to a lower level. * Riley's Farm, November 2! We will be sending announcements and permission slips in a couple of weeks. We count on parent drivers for this field trip. * Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Nov 7-9. These are minimum days. I will be sending out notes for scheduling your appointment in a couple of weeks. All students are required to have a conference for the Fall session. * Our classroom Thanksgiving Feast is on Friday, November 17. You'll be hearing from our Room Mom, Rae-lynn, about this! * Thanksgiving Break is the week of Nov. 20-24. Enjoy your Sunday! Michelle Good Evening Families!
First, I have to say that this year is going to be wonderful. We are developing into a class family that cares about each other. We care about hurts, happinesses, and successes of each class family member. Second, Chapter 1 Math test will be on Thursday. We are going to review tomorrow. Finally, as we all continue to adjust to our new experiences in 2nd grade I'd like to ask you for continued prayers and to have discussions with your children about their day; what they studied, who they played with, what they played, what they really liked about the day, and even what might have disappointed them about the day. Open and respectful communication is key in our classroom, please help to nurture that. Thank you for helping me to teach your precious children about love of Jesus, respect, doing their personal best in all things, and taking the best out of all that we experience! My Best, Michelle Oh my goodness, the students did a fabulous job with their Scientist of the Week presentations! Catherine was our last presentation this past Friday. The bulletin board is full and ready to post! Thank you so much for your help and support. Your students learned the valuable lesson of presenting. Some were nervous but all of them have told me that they loved doing it. Thank you! Blessings, Michelle My Dear Families,
How do I begin to thank you and show my sincerest appreciation for all the love and support you have shown me this year? This past week of breakfast treats, lunches, gift cards, and gifts was amazing and unexpected, thank you! You truly are a group of outstanding people and I thank you for entrusting your little loves to my care every day. It's been a fabulous year! We have 5 weeks left... can you believe it?? A few items for you: * We have begun out final chapter in Math. Chapter 11 is Geometry and Fractions. This is an introductory chapter. The kids enjoyed the first lesson! * We will be focusing on writing and parts of speech for the final weeks. Phonics will continue on a review basis and there will continue to be Spelling tests each Friday (except the last Friday, June 9) * AR continues and the students are excited to make their goals. Math Facts continues, as well. The final STAR test will be Thursday, June 1. * Aimee Leukert and I are working on an End-of-Year activity for Thursday, June 8 (Please note that this is a noon dismissal day!). She will be getting in touch with you as plans come together. * Scientist of the Week: We have 3 scientists left to present: Anna, Sophia, and Catherine! I will post a picture of our bulletin board with all the pics once everyone has presented. Blessings to each one of you. I pray, daily, that you will all return next year! You are precious!
